How do I care for my bow properly?

Wie pflege ich meinen Bogen richtig?

How to care for your bow

If you love your bow, you should also take care of it and give it a certain amount of care. To ensure that your bow is always in good hands, you should follow a few basic rules for your bow care. We'll give you a little guidance in this BEARPAW blog post.

The correct storage of your bow

We recommend that you never store your bow standing up, but always lying down. Ideally, you should have a fixture on the wall for this. If your bow is lying down for a longer period of time, you should store it in a bow case that protects it from dust and direct sunlight. We also recommend that you do not store your bow at too high temperatures.

The optimal bow cleaning

When cleaning your bow, you should pay attention to the following: Clean your bow only with water and do not use aggressive cleaning agents. Also, let it dry well, or dry it well especially after shooting in the rain.

Visual inspection of your bow

When you are about to clean your bow, you can use this opportunity perfectly for visual inspection. Here you can check the following features:

  • Does the varnish on your bow have damage?
  • Are there any cracks in the laminate?
  • Are the tips sharp-edged?
  • Are the limbs warped?

The correct care of bowstrings

In order to maintain your string as long as possible, you should make sure that it is always lightly waxed. For this we recommend BEARPAW string wax, which you can always pack in your bag or quiver on your outings. Also, check your string regularly for wear, especially on the tips. If your string is already very brittle from use, you should consider replacing it (small fringes are normal). Therefore, we recommend that you always have a spare string with you. The strings you can find in our BEARPAW store will easily last a few thousand rounds if you take good care of them. Our tip: If you have small fringes on the string, you can also carefully cut them off or burn them away with a lighter.

The correct stringing and unstringing of the bow

The most important thing when stringing and unstringing your bow: Use a bowstringer! By using the bowstring, you'll ensure that you don't do any damage to your bow. After you string your bow, you can check the string notches to make sure the string is perfectly seated in it. If you have a Take Down Bow , you should also make sure that the limbs are hand-tightened. Lisa shows you how to string and unstring your bow correctly in our YouTube video.

We hope that we were able to give you a few helpful tips and that you will be able to enjoy your bow for as long as possible with the right care.
